Elegant, comfortable and timeless is how interior designer Ricardo Ramos, owner and principal designer of Studio Ramos describes his design aesthetic. We at The Interior Design Resource Agency agree.
Ricardo began practicing interior architectural design in 1985 as an intern at Architectural Interiors (AI) in Washington DC, one of the top 100 firms in the nation. After earning a bachelor’s degree in Architecture and a minor in interior design from Virginia Tech in 1986, he hit the scene with a splash, however it was since early childhood that he knew he wanted to be an architect.
“I might have been 5 years old. Seriously! That early in life I knew it. All my kindergarten drawings had floor plans and house elevations and some had furniture arrangements”.
Ricardo has come a long way since those days. In 2007 he was awarded first place for his entry in the Typical American Residential Kitchen competition for the Victoria Stone Fair in Brazil. His design was built to his exact specifications and displayed in the main pavilion of the exhibition. He also launched a private line of upholstered furniture, SR-Home Collection, in the fall of 2010.
His path hasn't always been the easiest but Ricardo calls this period in economic history his biggest business challenge to date. "This horrific depression we are going thru right now is huge... Other than that, client balance and keeping general contractors in line are challenges. I have to make them stick to their promises so my projects get completed as designed and my clients at the end are happy!”
Ricardo finds design inspiration everywhere. “Particularly throughout my travels, especially in nature. In addition, the architecture of a home influences my designs in one way or another; plus my client’s needs and use of the space.”
Working with his clients has been his saving grace. Educating clients and people in general about the importance of having spaces set up for daily work or pleasure is one of his greatest joys.
With twenty-five years in the industry Ricardo has undoubtedly endured a lot of change. With his tenacity, vision and passion, he’s sure to see twenty-five more.
